Finding Beauty in All Things…
We Are One
Nature is full of subtle stories—shifting light, moving water, layered horizons, and moments that often go unnoticed.
Through plein air watercolor painting, Sharon Hind-Smith brings these fleeting scenes to life, painting outdoors in the environment where each landscape breathes, moves, and changes.
Her work celebrates our relationship with the natural world and the beautiful places we call home.
An Artist’s Journey
Sharon Hind-Smith
As a fine artist, printmaker and designer, I am always looking to expand each process in challenging new directions. I am inspired by nature… the incredible beauty of a feather… the incandescence of a fly… the weaving of a nest. I also have a reverence for time and its continuous effect on all things. I am fascinated by the transformation and synthesis of our constantly changing world.
I strive to capture the details, while broadening my techniques to create a more interpretive experience. Each view is a complex whole of interacting, interrelated and interdependent elements.
Bio
I was born in Vancouver BC Canada and attended Vancouver School of Art for the summer workshops as a teen. Langara College and Emily Carr College of Art and Design for Graphic Design after high school. I worked for many years as a designer for the Vancouver School Board, after that, I created my own graphic design company-SHS Design.
Moving to Philadelphia from Canada, I pursued printmaking (etchings, collographs, monotypes) for 12 years as well as co-owned a furniture store and art gallery: PS Home Furnishings. My family then moved on to California, where I have been employed as a teacher, illustrator, gallery manager and color consultant, with my own business, SHS Color. I was also a Design Consultant at CB2 in Berkeley CA.
I continued my work as a plein air artist with a studio at Sawtooth 10 in Berkeley CA, joining the East Bay Landscape Painters and I eventually led this group to paint at various locations throughout the East Bay every Monday. In 2016, I created a gallery space at the Berkeley Yacht Club showcasing a local artist every two months as well as organized group shows for EBLP.
I have since moved to the Delta and now live on a boat at Grindstone Joe’s. Grindstone Joe’s is an island with a private marina and nature preserve, filled with herons, egrets, cormorants, otters, sea lions and more. This year, I created my garden. All amazing inspiration!
